The lyric soprano was born in the north of Denmark into a family of musicians and performers. Her highly musical and creative surroundings led her to acting, singing, and performing from a very young age. Since 2011 she’s lived in Hamburg, where she first achieved a bachelor in classical singing and later a master's degree in opera singing, both at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. From 2016 - 2020 she was working with the world renowned mezzo-soprano, Michaela Schuster, and since participating in the Exzellens-Labor 2020 with the celebrated voice professor, Hedwig Fassbender. In 2020 Freja Sandkamm was awarded the prestigious prize "Theaterpreis Hamburg - Rolf Mares" for "Exceptional Performer" ("Herausragende Darstellerin") for her work as Violetta in Verdi's "La Traviata" at Opernloft, Hamburg. Other awards include the “Deutschlandsstipendium“ in 2016, and Ulrich Stærk´s Prize in 2011. The young singer is cherished for the warm timbre of her voice, her honest expression, her natural musicality, and her broad acting range. Since 2019 Freja Sandkamm has been a part of the free ensemble at the Opernloft in Hamburg, where her repertoire includes the roles of Marguerite (Faust), La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Helmwige (Die Walküre). Before that she sang the roles of Dido (Dido and Aeneas), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), and Cathleen (Riders to the Sea) accompagnied by the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. In 2017 she performed the title role in Händel's opera Alcina in the Opera Stabile in Hamburg. Freja Sandkamm is fluent in Danish, English, and German, and has a thorough understanding of the Italian and French languages.
